本周我们就来聊聊吃这件大事!
1. Snack /snæk/
n. 零食;点心;小吃
常见的小吃比如说:chips/ Crisps薯片; Crackers 薄脆饼干; Jerky肉干; Spicy gluten辣条等。
以及一到睡觉前就想吃的宵夜:midnight snack / late-night snack
除此之外,snack 也可以做动词,
v. 吃小吃; 吃点心
e.g. Some students don’t eat a sensible diet. They snack a lot.
一些学生的饮食习惯不够合理,他们吃很多小吃。
e.g. I'll just snack on a chocolate bar if I'm hungry.
这里的搭配是 snack on,通常指的就是随便吃点什么的垫吧垫吧或者磨磨牙。
最后是snacker: people who eat snacks
如果你有吃零食这个习惯,那就是一个serial snacker!
2 .Binge /bɪn(d)ʒ/
这个单词就不是吃这么简单了。
n. 放纵;无节制
binge eating即暴饮暴食
binge drinking 酗酒
搭配:go on a(n) eating/ drinking/ shopping binge
e.g. Are spending sprees on unnecessary items and binge eating a part of your routine?
你日常生活中会在不必要的物品上疯狂消费和大吃大喝吗?
注:spree 也指的是毫无节制的行为,如:a buying/shopping/spending spree 疯狂购物
Binge 也可以作为动词,
Binge on 狂吃海喝
e.g. He binges on beer to vent his frustration
他借酒消愁。
两个习语:
Binge watch:刷剧
e.g. I would rather binge watch TV episodes than watch one or two episodes per week.
我喜欢刷剧而不是每周看一集两集的。
binge and purge 暴食后再强迫自己呕吐(以控制体重)
e.g. Her college roommate used to binge and purge.
注:非常不健康,会导致厌食症喔。
3. Grab /græb/
这个单词除了抓取夺取,和吃的有什么关系呢?
e.g. Let's grab a sandwich! The train is coming!
v. (匆忙且随意地) 吃,睡,拿取等。
习语:grab a bite (to eat)
e.g. I was in a hurry to meet my boss for the two o’clock meeting, so I grabbed a quick bite at the nearest fast-food restaurant that was along the way.
着急去开会然后在最近的快餐店随便吃了点东西。
是不是很有画面感了?
4. Wine /waɪn/
葡萄酒和吃有什么关系呢?
习语:wine and dine
If you wine and dine, or if someone wines and dines you, you go out, for example to expensive restaurants, and spend a lot of money.
指的是设宴款待某人或者去餐厅享受美味。
e.g. On special occasions I take my partner wining and dining. We love the ambience of the candle-lit dinners, and the extensive menu of mouth-watering meals.
在特殊的场合,我会和另一半享受美味。我们喜欢烛光晚餐的氛围和令人垂涎欲滴的餐点。
e.g. We were wined and dined by our host at the best restaurant in town last night.
主人家昨晚在城里*高 档的餐厅里设宴招待我们。
5. savour /'seivə/
v. 细细品尝;品味;
e.g. They savored every last morsel of food. 他们用心品味每一口食物。
除了享受美食,savour 也可以是抽象意义上的品味:
e.g. He savored the memories of his vacation. 他细细回味假期的美好记忆。
